Enrichment
At East Ward, our curriculum extends beyond the National Curriculum and includes a wide range of enriching experiences and opportunities both within and beyond the school day. Our primary focus when planning enrichment opportunities is to raise aspirations, support personal and social development and to provide children with a sense of personal pride in achievement; ensuring our pupils are happy, challenged, proud and successful.
In addition to our exciting Learning Challenge curriculum, we also provide further opportunities to enrich children’s learning wherever possible. These include:
50 things your child will do before they leave East Ward
Here at East Ward, we have carefully selected the experiences that will be contextually important to the children in their care. These chosen experiences and activities are woven into our curriculum to enrich learning and enhance the children’s understanding of the world that we live in. This is new to East Ward this year and will be commencing in the second Autumn term.

Whole School Theme Days/Weeks
Throughout the year, themed days/weeks are woven into the curriculum to extend the breadth and balance of opportunities we offer our pupils. These include: Interfaith Week, Black History Month, Anti-bullying Week, Internet Safety Week and World Book Day.
Educational Visits and Residentials
School trips and visits are an integral part of the quality of education at East Ward. Educational visits are planned to give children first-hand experiences alongside the learning that is taking place in school. Trips out may also include sporting events or activities with the school choir. Children in Year 6 take part in an annual residential visit. This is planned to provide new and exciting experiences that will be new to many of our children.
Visitors into School
Visitors have a valuable role to play and contribute to our broad and balanced curriculum. Children have the opportunity to work alongside artists, authors, dancers and lots of other visitors that deliver talks, workshops and full day activities such as Scootfit.
After-school Clubs
As a school we offer pupils opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities after school. At any time, a wide range of clubs is on offer – our programmes of clubs and activities available is revised termly depending on the time of year.
